The Demise of WGPR

The demise of WGPR (107.5 FM) is one of the saddest events to happen to radio in the city of Detroit since WJZZ went off the air years ago. Nowhere else plays the variety of music that WGPR played on a daily basis. From old school r&b, to jazz, to classic hip-hop, to gospel, you never knew what was gonna be coming up next. The cookie-cutter mentality that dominates radio today is so bland and unsatisfying that MP3's and CD's or satellite radio is becoming the only choices left for the true music fan, if you want to hear something fresh and original.  Once again I have to bid farewell to a friend that I shared most of my drive time with. To all the staff at WGPR, I wish you all well and hopefully I'll be hearing you on the air again soon.
